Advertising is quickly becoming one of the most exciting industries to work in, followed by media such as television, radio, publications and newspapers. Why do I say this? Well, advertising agencies are companies that enable corporate organizations or small companies to promote their services or products in a professional way.
When you need your drain unblocked, you phone a plumber. When you need to repair you car you phone a mechanic. When you need to book a flight, you phone a travel agent. When you need to advertise your never-before-seen, absolutely incredible nail glue, you phone an ad agency!
Again you ask why: because they have the ability to transform even a simple rock into a super-cool, super-slick, bouncy-water-slider. Yes, they have magic abilities, or so some believe.
There are several types of ad agencies, each concentrating on different types of markets and offering various services. For instance, they have evolved into joining the online world. So that entrepreneurs of all ages are jumping at the opportunity to make money by opening an online agency. They fail to remember that you will have to go out and look for clients, and they also seem to forget that the relevant tertiary skills required to run a firm are essential.
Employing staff can be a solution, but would they really want to work for someone with no experience or understanding of the industry? They might as well start their own firm! And that’s probably what they will do the moment they’ve declined your job offer!
The internet is a powerful source of information. Social media and networking is evolving so quickly that marketing, PR and advertising agencies are offering it as a marketing service. While you probably could digitally market your product yourself, ad agencies are extremely well connected: they know people who know people. They have ways of making things happen! They know what the target market for your product is and they sure know how to reach them.
The process of making an ad is probably one of the best jobs. In my case, the crazier the ad, the better! Can you imagine how much fun they have when brainstorming concepts? Even so, it stays a job, an important one too, because whatever strategy they choose, will go out into the entire world for countless eyes to see and judge. And if they mess up with one ad, all their life’s work, their reputation and their clients falls to pieces.
The increasing demand for products to be marketed on tv, radio or billboards is also the main reason marketing and advertising costs have spiked through the roof: it would be almost impossible for an individual to advertise a product or service, unless they have a stash of loot hidden away somewhere.
Corporate organizations are more inclined to spend a fortune on a huge advertising campaign, and that’s the type of clients they are searching for.
